Joey Barton has been rumoured to be on the verge of signing with Sunderland but has insisted he will never play for them. Barton only has 18 months left on his contract at QPR and is a target for Gus Poyet.
Joey Barton said: “Me to Sunderland? Somehow I just don’t think so.”
“I value the time I spent at NUFC. I value the relationship I have with the toon army to this day. I could never play for the mackems. It wouldn’t be right. Not sure were the rumour came from. But usually it’s nonsense.”
