Ex-Liverpool left-back calls time on his career

Ex-Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise has today announced he is retiring from football.

The Norweigan confirmed the news this morning, after a successful career spanning over 20 years, during which time he won the Champions League and FA Cup with Liverpool.

He was sold to Roma in 2008, but returned to the Premier League with Fulham, and has also played for APOEL and Delhi Dynamos. He’s currently at boyhood club Aalesund but won’t be continuing into next season.

He is the most capped Norweigan player ever, with 110 appearences for his national side.

He fired home memorable goals against both Everton and Man United in his opening few months at Anfield, and his hammer of a left foot ensured numerous other eye-catching strikes were scored along the way, including a sweet strike early on against Chelsea in 2005’s Carling Cup final.
