The midfielder has struggled for gametime at Chelsea since Antonio Conte took charge at Stamford Bridge

John Obi Mikel is close to completing a move to join Valencia, according to reports today.

In fact, a deal to send the midfielder to Spain is practically done but before a deal can be officially confirmed, there is a small problem for the La Liga side.

Valencia have been hit by FFP and were also hoping to land Simone Zaza this month, who has spent the first part of the season on loan at West Ham. However, they can only sign one of Obi Mikel or Zaza.

Interest from France and China

The Spanish side therefore may instead decide to take Zaza, meaning that the Chelsea man will once again have to be on the lookout for a move to a new club.

There are no shortage of clubs who are interested in him though, with sides from France all declaring an interest and several teams from China are also considering moves for the 29-year old.

But, it’s believed that the midfielder would much prefer a move to La Liga.

Obi Mikel has been pushed out of the side since Antonio Conte has taken charge at Stamford Bridge and with the midfielder not an integral part of the club’s plans, it is likely he will leave this month.
