Antonio Conte has reportedly told the midfielder he can leave the Blues

John Obi Mikel’s time at Chelsea could soon be up, with the midfielder allowed to leave the club according to reports today.

The 29-year old has been with the Blues since 2006 and despite his commitment to the club over the last ten years, that spell at Stamford Bridge could soon be set to come to an end.

Mikel featured in 33 games for Chelsea last season and it looked like he might be a prominent figure in the side again this year. However, he has yet to feature for the Blues at all so far this season and new reports are claiming that he has no future at the club anymore.

Contract expires next summer

According to Gernot Rohr, who is the boss of the Nigeria national team, he has been informed by one of Chelsea’s technical directors that Obi Mikel will be allowed to leave the club as soon as January, because there is no longer a need for him at Stamford Bridge.

His current contract expires at the end of the current campaign and with these latest reports, it looks unlikely that they will tie him down to a new deal. It means that he could leave the club on a free in summer after over 200 games for Chelsea.

However, they may instead decide to try and cash-in on him in January to try and get a fee rather than let him leave for nothing, or they could instead decide to ship him out on loan.

Either way, according to these reports, it looks like his time at Chelsea is coming to an end.
