Shanghai SIPG are interested in Nigerian

Chelsea could be set to lose long-serving midfielder John Obi Mikel, with Chinese club Shanghai SIPG keen on signing him in a deal worth just £6million.

The Nigerian is one of Chelsea‘s longest serving players, having moved to the club a decade ago back in 2006. However, his first-team opportunities have been limited in the past few years and he’s now considering his future.

With the likes of Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Ramires keeping Mikel out of the first-team picture, and also Ruben Loftus-Cheek emerging from the youth set-up, Mikel is aware that he may have to leave.

The midfielder was close to leaving Stamford Bridge over the summer, with Turkish side Galatasaray keen on striking a deal, but the Blues refused to agree to the transfer.

Chinese Interest

According to reports however, Shanghai from the Chinese league are now keen on signing him. Currently manager by Sven-Goran Eriksson, the Chinese side want to offer Chelsea around £6m and will also offer Mikel a contract worth around £60k-a-week.

Officials around Chelsea are fearful that several first-team players may look to abandon ship after their dismal campaign.
