Midfielder puts talks on hold until summer

The agent of Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has revealed that contract talks with the club and his client have been put on hold until the summer.

Mikel, a Nigerian international, who joined Chelsea a decade ago, has found a regular starting berth hard to come by under the stewardship of interim manager, Guus Hiddink, and has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

At 28-years of age, a big money move to the Chinese Super League has been mentioned, with the players’ agent admitting that any talks with the Premier League winner over an increased deal shelved until May.

Agent Confirms Plans

‘Chelsea have approached him for an extension,’ his agent explained.

‘But he said after the season he’ll decide.

‘He has many teams interested – almost three clubs in China want him.’

Mikel has made 23 appearances for the west Londoners this term. His current contract at Chelsea expires in the summer of 2017.
