Chelsea skipper was asked about Italian

Chelsea defender John Terry remained coy when talking about Antonio Conte taking over at Stamford Bridge.

The veteran was talking to TalkSPORT when they asked about the Italian, who is hotly tipped to take over at the club come the end of the season.

Conte is expected to be announced as the new Chelsea boss by the end of the month, taking over from Guus Hiddink following the European Championships, where he’ll be leading Italy.

When asked about Conte and the possibility of him arriving, Terry remained coy on the subject, and he admitted that none of the players are talking about it until it’s official.

Terry on Conte

“[Conte to Chelsea has] not been spoken about within the squad,” Terry told talkSPORT.

“That’s the club’s and the owner’s decision, to see who the next manager is.

“It’s not for the players to talk about, we are about the here and now and to climb the table.

“Where we was [in the Premier League table] was unacceptable.

“The way was performing under Jose – we didn’t do him or ourselves any credit.

“The form was always going to come, let’s not take it away from Guus and what he’s done but it’s not fair on Jose because he’s been unbelievable for our club.

“Guus has come in and picked up the reigns again and put us in the right direction.”

Terry was speaking after reports emerged claiming Roman Abramovich had already told the players about Conte’s appointment.

As for the centre-back, he might not even be at the club come next season with his contract expiring this summer.
