Chelsea boss made personal phone-call to Frenchman
According to reports, Paul Pogba turned down Chelsea this summer because he wants to join Barcelona or Real Madrid.
French newspaper L’Equipe claims Jose Mourinho personally phoned the Juventus star to persuade him to make the move to Chelsea, but it’s claimed he snubbed the Portuguese’s approach because he wants a switch to Spain next summer.
The former Manchester United academy star is one of Europe’s hottest properties after impressing at the heart of Juventus’ midfield.
His stunning displays since a free transfer move in 2012 have seen Pogba’s price tag rocket beyond £70m.
Juventus chief Giuseppe Marotta also reitireated that it would take an eye watering sum to make them even think about selling their star man.
Marotta said “As we want to win, we have decided to keep hold of a player as important as Pogba, although we have had offers from some very important clubs,” Marotta told reporters.
“In the future he could be worth more than 100 million euros.”
L’Equipe report no official offer was lodged by Chelsea, with Pogba telling Mourinho he wasn’t interested in a move and Chelsea unwilling to table an offer the Italians couldn’t resist.
