Chelsea boss says Gunners get off lightly despite spending big

Jose Mourinho vs Arsene Wenger could kick off slightly earlier than usual this season after the Chelsea manager has already taken his first swipe at the Frenchman.

In a recent interview, Mourinho has criticised The Gunners‘ spending over the past decade and believes the club don’t get scrutinised like the other sides do.

Arsenal’s Dealings

Both Chelsea and Manchester City have been accused of buying success in recent time due to their financial backings in the board, but Mourinho has pointed the finger at Arsenal and Wenger claiming they are just as bad.

Over the past 10-years at Arsenal, Wenger has spent over ÂŁ400million, including ÂŁ100m since 2013.

The Gunners have recently added big-name signings like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, whilst also spending big on Calum Chambers and Danny Welbeck.

So far Arsenal have only spent ÂŁ11m this summer, bringing in Petr Cech from Chelsea, but Mourinho insists that people would be shocked if they looked into the spending at the Emirates Stadium.

Mourinho Highlights Arsenal’s Spending

“If you add up the amounts clubs have spent in the last three or four years maybe you will find a surprise. If you put Ozil plus Sanchez plus Chambers plus Debuchy, you will maybe find a surprise.

“Get a calculator. That is the easiest thing, it leaves no space for speculation.”
