Goalkeeper expected to leave Stamford Bridge

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has begged Petr Cech to stay at the club over the Summer after playing a pivotal part in the title-winning campaign.

Despite not featuring regularly, Mourinho has insisted that the veteran has been crucial to the squad throughout the campaign and he has begged with him to stay put at the club.

Cech Attracting Interest

The 32-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the club in order to play regular first-team football, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool interested in signing the veteran.

Cech has been at Chelsea for over a decade, winning everything possible at club level, but it’s looking likely that this campaign will be his last in West London.

Since the start of the season, Cech has played second-fiddle to Thibaut Courtois after he got the number-one jersey from Mourinho. The Belgium returned from a three-year loan spell with Atletico Madrid.

However, Mourinho still wants to see Cech stay at the club for next season despite not being able to offer him regular first-team football.

Mourinho Wants Cech Stay

“He’s a legend of this club but he’s a legend at 32 years old which is a very young legend for a goalkeeper,” Mourinho said.

“One of our strengths this season was to have the two best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

“I don’t know if we could be champions if he hadn’t played these seven matches. His contribution was decisive.”

He then added: “The reality is that Petr played lots of matches in every competition so we made him feel important.

“I can cope with it, for me it’s no problem to have both but obviously I don’t know what Petr is thinking.”
