Jose Mourinho: Chelsea manager wants to sign Paul Pogba

The French midfielder has attracted transfer speculation from top-tier European clubs this summer

Jose Morinho has revealed that he is interested in bringing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba to Chelsea this summer.

22-year-old Pogba, who signed for Juventus on a free-transfer from Manchester United in the summer of 2012, has been the subject of persistent interest from the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and former employers United.

And Chelsea manager Mourinho weighed in on the Pogba debate, by admitting that he would like to sign the highly-rated starlet.

However, the Portuguese native believes that a deal for the France international will be unlikely.

MOURINHO: “POGBA IS ONE OF THE TOP PLAYERS”

Speaking on Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States, Mourinho said:

“Pogba is not to put pressure on people.

“Pogba is one of the top players in the world. Pogba goes to any team and improves that team automatically.

“If he stays at Juventus, Juventus will be very strong again. If he goes somewhere else he will improve immediately a team.

“This is not our case. We are changing [Petr] Cech for [Asmir] Begovic, we are changing Didier [Drogba] for [Radamel] Falcao and we are changing kids by other kids.

“I think everybody has an interest in Pogba.

“But there are things you can do and things you cannot do. I love the Eiffel Tower but I can’t have the Eiffel Tower in my garden. I can’t even have the Eiffel Tower of Las Vegas.”

BARCELONA INTEREST

Pogba featured 43 times in all competitions last season, and helped Juventus to a Serie A title, and a European Cup Final place.

And his future could lie away from Turin, should Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta get his way – as the Catalan club have already tabled a bid to bring the player to the Nou Camp – despite a transfer embargo until January 2016.

However, Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta revealed that Pogba is going nowhere, having stated: “Whoever is interested needs to talk to us and not with agent Mino Raiola.

“Barca cannot make any signings and Juve does not want to sell.”
