Jose Mourinho confident of title next season

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is adamant that if the club sign well this Summer, they will be title contenders next season.

The Blues just fell short this year, finishing in third behind Liverpool and eventual winners Manchester City, despite beating them both twice this year, but Mourinho knows that the Summer business will be crucial if they are to win it next year.

Throughout the season, Mourinho was very open about why his side cannot compete for the title, and that was because they lacked a striker with a ‘killer instinct’, but with Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa strongly linked with a move to The Bridge, plans for next season are already taking place.

Speaking after his side ended the season with a 2-1 win away at Cardiff City, Mourinho admitted that next year will be their year.

“Next season if we do our work in a successful way in the summer market, which I know the club is trying to do everything to make that a successful period for us, then if we do that I want to start day one saying we are going to fight for the title,” said Mourinho.

“We don’t need a new spine, a new structure. It is there.

“The fundamental for us now is a couple of players of a certain level to help the team immediately go to a different level.

“After that the additional is if someone has to leave then someone has to come. Our work in the summer is not a big amount of work, it is just the right choice.”
