Chelsea boss admits he wants a striker

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has sparked further speculation about his interest in Radamel Falcao by confirming that he wants to sign a striker this Summer.

The Blues boss was speaking in an interview about his plans over the pre-season, and he confirmed that a striker is on his list after losing Didier Drogba.

The Ivorian striker announced his intentions to leave the club for a second time over the Summer amid fears of playing time ahead of the new season.

Chelsea will have Diego Costa and Loic Remy as striking options, and Mourinho has admitted that a striker is on his mind with Falcao strongly linked.

Mourinho Eyes Striker

‘We will be better,’ the Blues boss told the Sunday Times. ‘I don’t see our team losing players. I don’t see our team losing our qualities, especially our mental, emotional approach to matches, to the season, to the competition.

‘We have to buy a striker because we want to have three strikers of a good level. We do not want to have just one. Then you lose a good position on the negotiation table.’

Falcao to Chelsea?

According to reports, Mourinho is considering a shock loan bid for Falcao over the Summer despite the Colombian’s shortcomings last season with Manchester United.

The striker joined Old Trafford on a season-long loan from AS Monaco, but only managed to net four goals during the 2014/2015 campaign, ending with Louis Van Gaal refusing to sign him permanently.

Despite his poor campaign in England, that hasn’t put Mourinho off as he prepares to sign a striker over the Summer, but he knows that signing someone for the first-team could be a tough task due to the abundance of quality at his disposal already.

Mourinho Eyes Depth

‘It will be difficult to find players to go straight into the team,’ Mourinho said. ‘Because it’s not easy to find a better striker than Diego (Costa), a better keeper than (Thibaut) Courtois, a better midfield player than (Nemanja) Matic or (Cesc) Fabregas.

‘This season is about improving the squad, bringing players to make us more consistent, so we don’t go through difficult periods like last season when we had crucial injuries. We have to try and protect that situation by adding two or three players.’
