Jose Mourinho dismisses Zanetti bid

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports linking him with a bid for Inter Milan veteran Javier Zanetti.

Reports were suggesting that The Blues boss, who worked with Zanetti for two years in Italy, were keen on bringing the Argentine in for one-season to help sure up the defence, and then add the veteran onto his backroom team after that.

However, those links were quickly shrugged off by Zanetti himself after he declared his only intentions are staying in Italy with Inter, and now Mourinho has moved to rubbish the reports as well.

He told Sky Sport Italia: “It is not true that I have made an offer to Zanetti.

“It is impossible to think of him at any other club than the Nerazzurri. It makes no sense to take him out of Inter because he will remain there forever.”

Although a move to Chelsea may not be on the cards for Zanetti, a move back to Italy could be on the cards for Mourinho.

Mourinho added: “I want to stay in the Premier League for many years, but there may come a time when Roman Abramovich decides my time is over and then I can think about returning to Italy.

“A return to Italy would mean only Inter for me.”
