Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has confirmed that Eden Hazard is on the verge of signing a new deal at the club.
The Belgium international, who has become a crucial figure at Stamford Bridge, was strongly linked with a move away from West London, with Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid keen on signing him over the Summer, but Hazard snubbed their interest and remained in England.
Now, it’s clear that the winger wants to stay at Chelsea, and according to Mourinho, the deal is close to being finalised.
He said: “I was never worried about it. Since the moment i met his father everything was very clear about their intention and their happiness to stay with Chelsea.
“After that it becomes a numbers situation and when it becomes a numbers situation I am more than happy to be out.
“But my club always told me that the situation would finish with a new contract.
“I was never worried about that.”
Hazard will sign a five-year deal worth £200k-a-week, making him the club’s highest earner, and when asked about his future, Mourinho admitted that he could become a club great.
“I think so. He needs to win title because titles make players’ history. No players considered legends with clubs without winning titles so he has to do that.
“But the potential I think everybody knows.”
