Jose Mourinho happy with ‘bargain’ Diego Costa

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes the club have landed a bargain in the shape of striker Diego Costa, after he netted a brace in last night’s friendly at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard, who left Atletico Madrid this Summer for Chelsea, cost the Premier League outfit ÂŁ32million, after he netted 36 goals in 53 games for the Spanish side, and his scoring ways seem to have transferred over to England as well.

A quickfire brace last night, along with a couple more in other pre-season fixtures has seen Costa win the praises of Mourinho, who believes has been a bargain for the club.

“You can consider him a bargain because the market is crazy, as everybody knows.

“The values are very high, and for strikers they are even more. For a striker like him, champion in Spain, Champions League finalist, young – 25 years old – we consider the price Chelsea paid was very much in our favour.

“Diego is a team player. It’s not just about his goals but his defensive mentality and his ambition. He looks very much adapted to the team.

“This is the player we wanted. This is the player we have been waiting for since last season – this is why we didn’t buy a player in the winter market.

“We have him and, hopefully, everything goes well. He looks well adapted to his team-mates and our style.

“The Premier League should be happy because sometimes we lose important players going to other countries. Sometimes we bring new top players to the country and we should welcome them.”
