Work permits could be an issue for the Brazilian

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is hopeful Brazilian Kenedy can have a future at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old has been with The Blues during their pre-season tour of America and even featured for them against FC Barcelona last night in a friendly.

However, the midfielder is officially owned by Fluminese, and it would cost Chelsea around ÂŁ6.3million to sign him and take full ownership of the player.

Work Permit Issues

Although Chelsea could afford to pay it outright to own the player, new FA work permit rules make it tricky for The Blues to make the deal happen.

Kenedy has yet to make a full senior appearance for Brazil, meaning obtaining a work permit could be difficult despite him playing at U17s and U20s level.

Despite the issues and the new rules, Mourinho is confident Kenedy will be part of Chelsea’s squad in the future.

Mourinho Hopeful

“We bought Kenedy because we believe in him. He’s a very young kid that we believe a lot in, hopefully,” he said.

“We have conditions to get him a work permit because we want him. We don’t want him to go out on loan, I think we have what the rules demand to get him a permit.

“He was in pre-season with us without the documents so he couldn’t play the first two matches for us.

“Against Barcelona he had the chance to do it and even if it was a friendly I think it was the best debut for a kid, to play against the best team.

“It was a great night for the kid and a great experience.”
