Duo clashed a day before dismissal

Cesc Fabregas and Jose Mourinho were involved in a heated training ground bust-up, just a day prior to the sacking of the former Chelsea manager.

Mourinho was dismissed of his duties by owner Roman Abramovich on Thursday afternoon, following on from a poor start to the season – with Chelsea 16th in the top-flight, having lost nine of their opening 16 matches.

The Portuguese had also lost the support of the majority his dressing room – according to the club’s Technical Director, Michael Emenalo.

Statement

Speaking following the sacking, Emenalo said: “There obviously seems to be some palpable discord between the manager and the players.

“The owner is forced to make what was a very tough decision for the good of the club. Make no mistake about it.

“Chelsea Football Club, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is one point above relegation and that is not good enough.”

Training Ground Bust-Up

It has now emerged that Mourinho endured a tough penultimate day at the West London outfit, as the Times report that he was involved in a row with Spanish international, Cesc Fabregas, at their Cobham training ground.

The heated argument began after senior and academy players clashed during a game when Fabregas inflicted a “strong but fair challenge” on an academy player – leaving to the two group of players forcefully dragged away by coaching staff.

Assistant manager Steve Holland will take charge of Saturday’s Premier League game with Sunderland at Stamford Bridge, as Guus Hiddink is set to be re-appointed until the end of the season.
