Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he does not know the best defensive combination for the club. Manchester United lost their second consecutive game yesterday as they lost to Tottenham Hotspur at home. Mourinho opted a three-man defence for the game, deploying Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and surprisingly, Ander Herrera. Jones eventually sustained an injury and left the field at the hour mark .
Mourinho said when asked if he knew his best defence, “No [I do not know my best defence.] Why not? Because in the first game we played Lindelof and Bailly, today we played Jones and Smalling but now Jones is injured. In the next match [at Burnley on Sunday], it will be Smalling with another one and when Marcos Rojo comes he will be an option and no, I don’t know my best back four.”
Jose Mourinho also expressed his disappointment at the journalists not praising his team’s performances. He said, “You want to make the miracle of my team played so well and strategically we were so so good and you want to try and transform this press conference into a situation of: ‘Let’s blame the guy. You have to tell me what is the most important thing, because I don’t know. When I win matches I come here many times and you are not happy that I win matches, and you say the most important is the way of playing.”
Mourinho later went on to walk off from the press-conference, demanding respect for his Premier League wins.
