Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is desperate for his side to seal qualification to the knockout stages in the Champions League on Tuesday when his side take on FC Basel in Switzerland.

The Blues are currently top of their group after winning three out of the four games they have played, however, the one game they lost, was at home to Tuesday’s opponents.

Mourinho’s men are currently on nine points, whilst Schalke are in second with six and Basel in third with five.

The Portuguese manager is aware of how busy the schedule gets for Premier League club’s in the upcoming month, so he is keen on wrapping up the group as soon as possible.

Mourinho said: “We have so many matches in December that if we can have one less – and the one less is the match against Steaua – it would be a help.

“We are going to try to win. In the end if you get a point you qualify but we have to try to win the game there.

“Also, because it was not a good feeling to lose against them at home so to try to win against a team that beat us at Stamford Bridge I think is important.”

Chelsea will have to play nine times in December which included tough games against Liverpool, Southampton and Arsenal, the latter being the highlight for Mourinho.

As for the match against Arsenal, he added: “Let’s see how we arrive there. Who knows in which position we are and they are on December 23?

“Maybe they are third and we are fifth? You never know. In this Premier League, anything can happen.

“Just play match after match and see what happens.”
