Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata just jumped to the defence of team-mate Fernando Torres, after the Spaniard was sent off during the club’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

Torres was shown two yellow-cards for coming to blows with Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen on both occasions.

The first clash came when Torres appeared to scratch the Belgium in the face, which evidently, could have been a straight red due to the Spaniard raising his arm to a player’s face.

However, it was only a booking, but unfortunately for the striker, was was eventually sent off after a collision with Vertonghen whilst battling for an aerial ball.

After the game, Torres’ team-mate, Mata, defended him by saying he’s not an aggressive player.

‘I don’t know [about the red card] but Fernando is not a player who goes to hurt,’ Mata told Chelsea’s website.
