Former-Tottenham boss snubbed chance to replace Jose Mourinho

Juande Ramos rejected the chance to take over from Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, according to his former-colleague Marcos Alvarez.

The former-Tottenham Hotspur manager was one of the names on the shortlist to replace Mourinho on an interim basis, and Alvarez has revealed how the West London club approached Ramos before they appointed Guus Hiddink.

Mourinho was sacked following an abysmal start to the Premier League campaign and was eventually replaced by Hiddink, who had a spell at Chelsea back in 2009, but all could have been different.

Speaking about the Chelsea job, Alvarez confirmed that officials from Stamford Bridge approached Ramos only for him to turn the job down.

Ramos Snubbed Chelsea

“Juande had an offer from Chelsea,” Alvarez told Spanish radio station Canal Sur.

“It is complicated to say no to a club like that, but he put conditions on the table to get the project under way and at the end there was no agreement.

“He has very clear ideas. His thinking is not just about going to an elite club that plays in the Champions League.”

“He wants to enjoy his profession in an interesting place with a proper project. We already had the experience of Real Madrid and he did not want to go through the same again, with a club where there are no guarantees of continuing even if you do a good job.”
