Julien Nagelsmann Won't Let 5-0 Loss Discourage Must-Win Meeting With Manchester United

Julien Nagelsmann understands the gravity of RB Leipzig’s next game against Manchester United.

Both clubs are in danger of getting knocked out of the Champions League, being level on points along with Paris Saint-German.

PSG, of course, has the easier route by facing bottom club Istanbul Baseksehir. Leipzig got thrashed 5-0 the last time they met United and this time they travel to Old Trafford. After collecting a last-minute 3-4 win over Istanbul, they will have to put everything on the line come Tuesday.

“We won’t look back on the past meeting,” said Nagelsmann. “The group is complicated for both teams. We need to win to get through. The heavy defeat in Manchester hasn’t made it any easier for us. They have been top of the table throughout the group but their defeat to PSG has changed things for them. We want to win at all costs and reach the knockouts.”

Nagelsmann wants RB Leipzig to be more commanding and aggressive in the return fixture, something they weren’t and allowed such a massive humiliation.

“The final scoreline was a bit high, we didn’t play that bad,” said Nagelsmann. “Overall, we had too few chances in their box and weren’t aggressive enough in the final third. We were almost too scared to attack. We need to play differently on Tuesday night – we have to find more ways of attacking and try to get behind their defence.

“We are prepared for Manchester United stepping up a gear. They’ve shown on a number of occasions so far this season that they can come from behind. They are dangerous right up until the final whistle.”
