Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Simon Mignolet will start against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The Belgian custodian hasn’t featured yet as Klopp has been using Alisson in the goal so far. Following the departure of Loris Karius, Mignolet has been the second fiddle to the new summer arrival.

The goal keeper reacted angrily in an interview as he thought he should have been given the sack instead of Karius after being the understudy to the German keeper last season.

Mignolet’s reaction earned some sheer criticism from Klopp who questioned the keeper’s intention. However, Mignolet has been training pretty intensely since this incident and Klopp is set to hand the player his first start of the season.

THe boss said, “The only position I will confirm that we will change is Simon will start.

“All the rest, you have to wait, but it will be a good team, believe me.”

“He has been brilliant. As you can imagine, transfer window time is one of two moments in a year when you can make a decision about going somewhere or bringing someone in.

“Simon would have been ready to go to another club as the number one but we couldn’t do it. Since then he’s [been] brilliant.

“He trains fantastic and he deserves this game. I am really glad to give him this opportunity.”
