Jurgen Klopp has hailed the contribution of Jose Mourinho following the latter’s dismissal from the Manchester United job.
Mourinho’s sacking came just after two days of Liverpool’s 3-1 thrashing of United in the Premier League. The Reds dominated the Red Devils and the scoreline could have been more shambolic for the visitors.
United are yet to finalise Mourinho’s immediate successor and Michael Carrick will oversee the senior team as of now. Jose was United’s third managerial change following the removal of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal respectively.
The Portuguese had a wonderful start to his United career having led the club to Europa League glory and League Cup success but hadn’t been able to replicate the initial success to the following years.
Klopp said, “He is a very competitive guy, very ambitious.
“He has all my respect, [he has been] unbelievably successful.
“I can imagine the last few months especially were not a joy for anybody, especially him. It is not nice to face all these questions every day. That is a problem.
“But nobody can take away all the things he has won. Nothing can take that away. I hope, personally, he has that in his mind when he leaves and not a few other things that happened in the last few months.
“He is an outstanding manager.”
