The striker missed today’s draw at Spurs

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge’s knee injury is not as serious as first feared.

The England international faced a late fitness test but was ruled out of the 0-0 draw at Tottenham Hotspur this morning.

The match at White Hart Lane was Klopp’s first since taking the hot seat at Liverpool, but his preparations would have been hampered by a host of injuries suffered during the week.

As well as Sturridge’s absence, the Reds’ centre forward Danny Ings and versatile defender Joe Gomez were ruled out for the season after both became victims of anterior cruciate ligament injuries.

When speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: “Daniel is not serious but in a week where we have had two ACL injuries [Danny Ings and Joe Gomez] we cannot risk it.”
