Former Dortmond manager Jurgen Klopp will only consider cutting short his managerial sabbatical short if Liverpool make him a ‘special’ offer.
Klopp, 48, has been heavily linked with multiple clubs since leaving Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. However, Liverpool are now favourites for his signature with Brendan Rodgers set to be axed from his position.
Clop is currently taking time away from football after leaving Borussia Dortmund in May and has no plans to return in the next two months.
However, a source close to Klopp has revealed the German boss would consider an early comeback if a ‘special’ offer was on the table.
A source told The Sun: “He’ll only come back for the right opportunity from a club like Liverpool and that means looking at everything about the club to see if he can work there.
“It does not have to be a Champions League club, but must be the right club with the right energy.
“His plans are set for the next couple of months. Yet if something special happened, he could consider it.
“He has spent his time off watching Premier League DVDs, as well as Bundesliga action.”
However, Brendan Rodgers isn’t ready to move aside just yet and hit back at his critics following Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.
He said: “I have never worried about the players. They have been brilliant. They have worked very, very hard.
“But I am pretty confident that there is a group of people that don’t want me to be manager here.
“In all competitions we have lost less games than Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. The hysteria around ourselves is interesting to note.
“We have lost two games, which is equal to Tottenham and Manchester United. We stand very calm, work very hard every day and we’ll get the rewards.
“But I think it is clear. Sometimes we haven’t lost a game but we haven’t performed well and I think, from the hysteria around it, it is pretty clear there is maybe something else going on from behind. I’m talking about people outside of here.”
