New Liverpool manager reveals why former-boss lost his job

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed why the club decided to sack Brendan Rodgers – because they ‘had to change something’.

The Northern Irishman lost his job following a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside Derby, but reports revealed afterwards that the club were planning on sacking him no matter what the result was against Everton.

Rodgers spent three years at Anfield and spent over ÂŁ300million without winning a single trophy, which eventually lead to his dismissal this season.

Klopp then took over from Rodgers after leaving Borussia Dortmund earlier in the year, and he’s admitted that changes were needed around the club and that’s why they pulled the trigger.

Change Was Needed

“We have to be very careful, if something serious happens [to my players] then we have a big problem,” he said.

“Somebody asks us if we can go to the top then it’s not my problem. I don’t think that way. The money is in the Champions League but I can’t promise it now. It’s hard work.

“They changed the manager here. It wasn’t because of the weather and it wasn’t a problem with Brendan Rodgers because he is a brilliant manager, but they had to change something.

“Only two weeks ago we lost to Crystal Palace. I can’t say that we are good enough [for top four] but if you want to write it you can.”
