The Serie A champions are set to return with a fresh bid

Juventus will make a second bid for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the January transfer window, after seeing a summer move for the player blocked.

The Old Lady have significantly boosted their bank balance, since the £89 million sale of Paul Pogba to Manchester United this summer, and are now looking to bolster their midfield options with a £23 million move for the Serbia international in the new year.

Antonio Conte rejected his former club’s efforts to sign Matic in the summer, insisting the 28-year-old is a key part of his plans at Chelsea, during his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

However, that is not stopping the Italian giants from returning with a fresh offer in January, hoping to persuade the player and club to let him leave for Turin.

Matic has established himself in Conte’s plans, starting all six Premier League games alongside summer signing N’Golo Kante, however, some reports are suggesting the Blues could give the go ahead for the Serbian to leave in the new year.

During the summer, Conte said: “You need to get into the heads of the players.

“Nemanja is an important player for me – and he knows this.

“There is not a problem with him. He was a Chelsea player and is a Chelsea player.”

Conte and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich have held talks this week, at the club’s Cobham training ground, with it understood the Italian boss is to be handed significant funds in January to bolster his squad, with a midfield playmaker a top target.

And that news will be welcomed by Juventus, in their attempts to get Matic to make a switch to Italy.
