Chelsea shot stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga has revealed the reason why he opted to join the Blues in this summer. Maurizio Sarri’s side paid a world record £71.6m to Athletic Bilbao to acquire his services this summer.
The Spanish custodian had been linked with a number of clubs with the likes of Real Madrid but the youngster went on to join Chelsea as the West London outfit triggered his release clause following the departure of Thibaut Courtois who left the club to join Los Blancos.
The 23 year old has acclimatised to the English conditions pretty beautifully and has helped the team in winning the first four games pretty convincingly. The Spanish international has kept two clean sheets in this proceeding and has already been a huge hit at the Stamford Bridge.
Kepa hailed his new club. “It is a great club, which in recent years has won the Champions League, Europa League and the Premier League.
“It’s a team with great players. It was an important bet and I am happy to take this step, I want to enjoy it.
“I started the pre-season with Bilbao and it was several weeks, Chelsea showed their interest.
“There were talks and everything was carried out.
“I’m happy for all the effort that Chelsea has made because it’s not easy to pay those amounts and I’m looking forward to returning it on the field.”
