Belgian reveals Jose Mourinho only spoke to him twice

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has revealed the reason behind him leaving Chelsea – because Jose Mourinho only spoken to him on two occasions.

The Belgian international failed to impress during his brief stay at Stamford Bridge, with chances in the first-team few and far between for the attacking-midfielder.

Eventually De Bruyne left the club and joined Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, where he flourished and showed Mourinho what he was missing.

After that impressive stint in Germany, Manuel Pellegrini and City had seen enough and decided to splash the cash on signing him over the summer.

ÂŁ54million was the reported fee for the 24-year-old.

Speaking in a recent interview about his previous spell in the Premier League, De Bruyne revealed he was never given a fair chance by Mourinho and was never treated with respect.

De Bruyne Reveals All

He said: “You can’t compare me now with two years ago at Chelsea. It’s a different situation and I am a completely different person and player than I was then.

“I was 19 then, worked with three managers, and just didn’t play that much.

“I just wanted to play. I had come from Bremen where I had been on loan and played every second so the difference was huge. I wasn’t even on the bench.

“I didn’t get any explanation. I only talked with Mourinho twice. That was before a Champions League game against Basel, where he said I was doing better in his opinion, and that I would get my chance.

“I think that was maybe November. And then one week before the January transfer window opened, I said I wanted to go out because even if I was training better, I was still not getting any minutes. So for me personally, it was better to go.

“I was probably a bit eager to play all the time at Chelsea and maybe should have taken it a little bit more slowly.

“But I don’t regret it. I just wanted and needed to go at that time, either a sale or loan, so that things could be better for me personally.”

“I’m not somebody who talks a lot with the coach. Of course, you want to know sometimes what he thinks and what you need to do or what he thinks you need to do.

“But I think it’s the most difficult thing for a player when the manager says in the press you are doing well but you are still not starting and you don’t know what you are doing wrong. That was maybe the biggest part that went wrong.”
