Khedira faces World Cup fitness battle

Germany and Real Madrid central midfielder Sami Khedira faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup Final’s in Brazil next summer after tearing his Anterior Cruciate Ligament in Friday night’s friendly fixture against Italy in Munich.

Khedira, who also tore another ligament in his right knee during the incident, will undergo surgery. “He will need to be operated on but we are hopeful he could be fit in time for the World Cup” the german national team doctor Wilhelm MĂĽeller-Wohlfahrt stated in an post match interview.

The Real Madrid man has performed well this season, for both club and country after bringing stability and an attacking threat to a side full of Galatico’s, and the injury will be a devestating blow to Khedira personally, and his club and country, who relied upon Khedira’s versitile style of play in the early stages of the current campaign.

“This is a bitter setback for Sami but he always thinks positively and that is why I am optimistic he will be ready and fit when the World Cup starts,” German national team manager Joachim Low stated the the national media after the fiesty 1-1 draw in the Allianz Arena, as the Italian’s grit and determination haulted a experimental German side.

The midfielder had also developeda superb midfield partnership with Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, who also faces a battle to be fit for the World Cup after he underwent surgery for a persistent ankle problem earlier this week.

Manager Low has already comfirmed that a whole host of star’s will not travel to London to face England, at Wembley on Tuesday evening, as the Germany boss looks to experiement with a very talented side, which qualified with ease for the World Cup Final’s. Captain Philip Lahm, and his club team mate Manuel Neuer have not travelled with the rest of the squad for Tuesday’s game. Arsenal man Mesut Ozil will not feature on Tuesday evening also.

The game will see a number of Germany’s highly rated youngster’s a chance to shine, these players include the likes of German teenage sensation Max Meyer, and his Schalke team mate Julian Draxler, Roman Weidenfeller looks set to start on Tuesday after Neuer’s absence.

Khedira was subject of a speculated move to either Manchester United or Arsenal in January, but that will obviously be scuppered now after the midfielder’s injury.
