Arsenal are facing an injury headache ahead of their crucial Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night as English duo Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere could both miss out.

The midfielder sat out of the side’s 2-0 victory against Liverpool on Saturday due to an ankle injury and Gibbs limped off late in the second-half after hurting his calf.

After the game, Arsene Wenger couldn’t give a definite answer about the duo’s fitness, but he did say that Wednesday could be too soon for them.

‘Jack has an inflamed ankle,’ Wenger explained. ‘Will he be available for Wednesday? I do not know. We will have to wait until Monday to see. Gibbs has a calf problem. I don’t know exactly how bad it is.’

The injuries to both could give Nacho Monreal and Tomas Rosicky a chance to play, but Wenger could choose Thomas Vermaelen instead of Monreal to fill out at left-back as the Belgium international has played down the flank before.
