Leeds United have officially signed Kiko Casilla from Real Madrid on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

The goalkeeper negotiated his way out of the remaining 18 months left in his contract with the Galacticos to make his move to Elland Road permanent. Leeds did not have to shell out a single dime in transfer fees to obtain the Spanish international.

Casilla started out his playing career with Real and later resigned with them in 2015 after spending 8 seasons with Espanyol. He could never break into the number one spot at the Santiago Bernabeu, mostly serving as an understudy to Keylor Navas and making 43 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Casilla has also earned himself a single cap for the Spain national side and 5 for Catalonia. He is ready to begin his journey in English football by fighting for a starting spot with Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Leeds are currently at the very top of the EFL Championship with a 4-point gap over Sheffield United. However, the club is currently tied up in controversy with head coach, Marco Bielsa admitting to spying on the rest of the domestic competition.

Casilla is certainly eager to play under the highly experienced boss as he said, “I am really pleased to work with him, I have a lot of information from when he worked in Spain, I watched the teams when he worked there and I talked with former players who worked with him and they all told me amazing things about him. I am really happy to work with him.”
