Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that the Premier League will be difficult for Liverpool despite the high profile summer signings. While speaking to Liverpool Echo, Klopp said, “The league will be difficult. It is not about judging our situation and thinking ‘wow, really good’. We need to be ready each week, not only for a few games. That is our challenge.”

Liverpool have signed several quality players this summer including Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson. However, Klopp is concerned about the club’s defence. Both Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan missed Liverpool’s 5-0 drubbing of Napoli in Dublin due to injuries. While Matip has injured his hip, Klavan has a hamstring injury. Both players are doubful for the Reds’ final pre-season game against Torino tomorrow.

Regarding Matip and Klavan, Klopp said, “Joel, we’ll have to see. Klavan, shouldn’t be too serious, but if Tuesday is too early I don’t know yet. Maybe we will do some magic things with the formation on Tuesday. I don’t know how we will do it.”

Croatian defender Dejan Lovren has joined the squad after a prolonged leave following the World Cup. Klopp said that Lovren will not play the game against Torino and may even miss the club’s Premier League opener against West Ham. “Dejan didn’t train so far. He probably won’t play Tuesday and Sunday will be very difficult as well. The first two league games at least are in the ‘pre-season’ [for the World Cup players].”

Liverpool begin their Premier League campaign at home against West Ham on Sunday.
