Reds top of the league but insists they must stay cool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool to stay cool after the team found themselves top of the league after the week 11 set of fixtures.

The Reds were emphatic on Sunday afternoon as they hosted Watford, putting 6 past in the Hornets in a massive win at Anfield. And that meant, in a weekend where joint-leaders Arsenal and Man City drew, Klopp’s men sit a point clear of Chelsea at the top going into the international break.

It’s the first time Liverpool have been on top since May 2014.

But the Liverpool manager has warned his side their early season form counts for nothing, and insisted that it is far too soon to judge their title credentials.

“If somebody thinks being one point ahead after 11 match days is a big sign for the rest of the season then I can’t help this person,” Klopp said.

“We stay cool. It’s the best position I can imagine but nothing else has happened.

“We knew that Arsenal drew against Tottenham but we didn’t speak one word about the possibility of being top of the table.”

Watford were swept aside by the Reds as they went into the dressing room 3-0 down at half time, and despite a consolation from Daryl Janmaat, were second best from start to finish.

On their league form, Klopp added: “There’s no pressure after 11 match days, absolutely no pressure. We saw Chelsea [on Saturday], quite impressive, [Manchester] City playing Barcelona, quite impressive. Man United – never write them off, Tottenham [are a] good side. There’s a lot of really good teams around.

“You can play a really good season and you could be fifth or sixth and nobody would be really happy. So, stay cool, take the things like they are, play your best, win games, that’s the only thing we can do.

“When I came here I asked for time and patience and belief, and after 11 match days everyone’s asking for guarantees and they are not there. The only thing we have is a pretty good football team.”
