Klopp chases reunion with his former player

Jurgen Klopp is hoping to add his former midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to his ranks at Liverpool this summer.

With current Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson being linked with a move to Tottenham, a fresh central midfielder is something that Jurgen Klopp will be extremely keen on.

the 25 year old Dortmund Midfielder will soon be entering the last 12 months of his contract, though he is yet to be offered a new and improved one- meaning that Klopp will be keen to sign him up soon.

Empoli’s Piotr Zielinski and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka are also said on Klopp’s wish list.

However, fierce competition for the player will soon come to the foreground, as incoming Man City manager Pep Guardiola is said to regard him highly and is on his ‘wish list’.

The interest from Man City doesn’t end there however, as City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has been ordered to try and make a deal, and he met with Gundogan’s uncle (and agent) Ilhan Gundogan earlier this month to discuss a move.

Tuchel wants Gundogan to stay:

when asked about this meeting, Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel said “I’m not disappointed or convinced. He did meet with Pep, but I don’t understand all the excitement about this.

“I know what we can offer him and if that’s an offer for him to stay, then so be it.

We also start planning for next season nice and early. That’s the way things work in football.

“I am not disappointed about what’s happened. Am I convinced that he will stay put? I will only be convinced he will stay once he signs a new deal.

“Ilkay knows what Dortmund are all about. He knows that he can develop here and become one of the team’s leaders. He knows what he has at Dortmund.”
