Klopp gives an update on the transfer window

Liverpool are unlikely to make any more signings during the January transfer window, Jurgen Klopp has said.

The Reds completed a £75million move for Virgil van Dijk at the start of the month – a record fee for a defender – and are close to signing Falkirk youngster Tony Gallacher for £200,000.

But Klopp said that he cannot envisage any more players arriving at Anfield before the winter window closes next week. Asked whether he expected the club to complete any more deals this month, Klopp said on Friday: “It’s not really likely.”

Klopp did suggest, however, that the club would be open to allowing striker Danny Ings to go out on loan. The 25-year-old is yet to start a Premier League fixture this season.

“I don’t think a lot of things will happen in the next few days, but if [it does] I’ll call you immediately, of course,” Klopp added. I can’t forget our needs – we have a lot of games to come.

“What I don’t like about the January transfer window, is that very often it feels like the season is over and we didn’t use players in the first half of the season so why do you need them in the second part? We have to plan a full year and that’s what we did.

“Maybe if Danny could go somewhere where he could start the next 20 games, would it be perfect for him? I’m not sure. Of course, it wouldn’t be bad to have the opportunity to start a few more games.”
