Klopp believes that his team has shown the hunger and the maturity to challenge for the title

Liverpool reach the halfway mark in the season when the Reds play host to Newcastle United at Anfield on Boxing Day. The Reds have enjoyed their best ever start to a top-flight season and they are the only team in the Premier League to remain undefeated.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are four points clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table and they will be the favourites against Newcastle. Klopp believes that his personal experience of winning the Bundesliga has nothing to do with Liverpool’s title challenge but his team has shown enough maturity and hunger to stay up in the title race.

Klopp said: “We are greedy for the second half of the season. We smelled a bit of it last season how it could be. We were close a few times.

“Obviously, we have played a very good season so far and it gives us a much better basis for the second part of the season than we had last year.

“You cannot be successful in any sport in the world without any kind of hunger. It is not possible.

“If you are satisfied with something then you must be a genius. There are a few of them out there and they can win things without the perfect attitude, but usually, there’s no chance without that.”

“We have a really good squad and so far we have always been able to line up a proper, proper team.”

He further added, “As long as we are not injured and we don’t look for excuses… just play your best football and build on that. Do it in the next game again.”

“We know much more about ourselves than we did in the summer. We know some things work really well and there are some things that we need to work on.”
