Reds boss believes fans’ chanting could jinx results

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has kindly requested Reds fans stop chanting his name during matches, following his side’s 4-1 victory over Leicester City.

Two goals from Roberto Firmino, a Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane strike made it a comfortable afternoon for Liverpool in their revamped home, while England striker Jamie Vardy pulled a goal back following a Lucas Leiva error.

But, showing his superstitious side, Klopp admitted Reds fans’ chants were premature and believes it was too early for the fans to start chanting his name.

The German manager was caught up in wild celebrations on the opening day of the season when Liverpool came from behind to lead 4-1, however, the Gunners pulled two goals back to make it a tense finish, in which the Reds finally came out on top 4-3.

“I have to say, because I don’t know how else I can say this, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided!” said Klopp.

“Immediately when the Kop started signing ‘Jurgen Klopp la la la’ they were clear on Simon Mignolet.

“It’s like celebrating a penalty before you have scored!

“It was the same against Arsenal. It’s nice, but it’s not necessary.

“It would be really nice if you could stop please!

“I wanted to say this, because (at the time) nobody could understand me. I know it doesn’t sound too smart, but sorry. That’s me. It’s very nice, thank you very much. But I’ve heard it often now!”

Klopp’s touchline behaviour is much like a fan and seemingly he has developed the superstitions to go along with it. But while the Reds boss had a request for the fans, he couldn’t ask any more of his players who were playing in front of a home crowd for the first time this season and put in a convincing performance.
