Klopp wants more wingers

The Liverpool boss has suggested signing a winger will be his main focus in summer

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he will be on the lookout for some new wingers in the summer.

The Liverpool boss believes the club has a lack of wingers in the squad and that means that they are more than likely going to make signing a winger one of their main priorities in the summer transfer window.

The Reds only have three players who can really play in that position at this moment in time. Jordan Ibe, Ryan Kent and Sheyi Ojo are the three natural wingers that are on the club’s books and two of them have barely featured for the first-team yet, with Ojo and Kent both still young and having been sent out on loan to Wolves and Coventry respectively in recent months.

Enough strikers but not enough wingers

Therefore, Klopp could therefore be on the lookout for some new additions in that area come the summer. He has though ruled out spending a lot of money on a lot of players and will instead focus on signing the right players rather than a lot of players.

He said: “I don’t believe in the number of transfers but we have to make solutions and we will make solutions – [but] seven really sounds a lot.

“Also maybe players will make solutions and say they do not want to be here any more, so you have to be prepared. We have enough strikers – five with Roberto (Firmino) – but not too many wingers, just a few young ones with great potential.

“We have to decide early and at the right moment on transfers, but it is about a squad where you can play different systems and react to different situations.”

There are several options for Klopp to look at, including Marco Reus, a player who he has previously worked with and been linked with.
