Croat wants to stay at Inter Milan

Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic wants to remain at the San Siro despite being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.

The Croatian international has been linked with a move to Anfield for weeks now, but with no formal contact or bids, it looks like the midfielder may get his wish and stay in Italy.

Bundesliga and Premier League Interest

However, according to reports yesterday, Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen could be set to complete a deal for the midfielder despite his desires to stay at the club.

The 21-year-old has spoken in Italian media and has revealed his desires to stay at the San Siro, despite speculation about his future and links with Leverkusen or Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers is a huge admirer of Kovacic, and eyed him as a perfect replacement for Raheem Sterling, but the Northern Irishman will have to look elsewhere after the midfielder reiterated his plans to stay with Inter.

Kovacic Eyes Stay

“The club have never said they want to sell me,” Kovacic told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Never. I’ll stay here. I won’t move. That’s what I wanted, that’s what my renewal until 2019 shows, there will be a long relationship between myself and Inter.

“I want to show that I deserve Inter. I want to win with this shirt. Inter is like Real [Madrid] or Barcelona.”

Leverkusen Talks

Despite wanting to stay in Italy, reports in Germany are saying that Leverkusen are in advanced talks with Kovacic’s representatives and that a deal could be finalsed for around ÂŁ14million.
