Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker praised his England teammate Kieran Trippier, saying that the Spurs right-back deserves his position in England’s team. During the World Cup, Trippier filled in the wide role in the right flank which is generally Walker’s position.

Speaking ahead of England’s crucial Nations League match against Spain, Walker said that Trippier deserves his position in the team.

Walker said, “It was in the back of my mind [Trippier taking position] but I knew in a weird way I didn’t have four bad games on the spin for England and [had not] got dropped. My place was kind of taken by default where I went to right centre-half, and Tripps had a fantastic World Cup. For me, he deserved to play the next two international games or however many games we played after that because he had a fantastic World Cup.

Full credit to him for putting in the performances he did, but I just had to take my opportunity the other night [against Croatia] and I hope I impressed Gareth.”

England play their third Nations League fixture against Spain today at Seville. The Three Lions have already lost the home leg 2-1 at Wembley. They desperately need a win to stand a chance of qualifying for the Nations League finals. On the other hand, Spain need a win to become the first team to qualify for the Nations League finals.
