The Dutch midfielder was on the verge of singing for Los Blancos this summer.

Real Madrid are reportedly still interested in signing Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The 22-year-old Donny van de Beek was strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu during the summer transfer window as Real Madrid seemingly considered alternatives for Manchester United’s Paul Pogba.

The Netherlands international ultimately remained with Ajax beyond the transfer deadline, though, and he has scored twice and provided four assists in seven appearances this season.

According to AS, despite deciding against a summer move, Madrid are still interested in acquiring the Dutchman’s services and could launch a bid at the end of the 2019-20 campaign. They have informed the player’s representatives that, should he continue his impressive development, they intend to return with a fresh bid next summer which could be worth well in excess of €50 million.

It seems like everyone involved would be happy with that. Real want a new midfielder, Ajax are prepared to sell for the right price, and van de Beek dreams of turning out for a club like Real Madrid in the near future. Van de Beek, who has a contract in Amsterdam until the summer of 2022, scored 17 times and registered 13 assists in 57 appearances for his Dutch club last season.

Those kinds of performances have attracted interest from a number of European giants. Alongside Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona are all thought to be keen, but it appears as though Los Blancos will fight their way to the front of the queue.

Zinedine Zidane’s side were also linked with Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes late in the transfer window after failing to secure a deal for long-term target Pogba.
