‘Lampard deserves a statue’, says Mourinho

According to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, legendary midfielder Frank Lampard deserves to have a statue erected of himself outside Stamford Bridge.

The veteran’s contract expires this Summer after his 12-month deal comes to an end, but according to reports, he has agreed a new deal in principle with the club’s board, something that both John Terry and Ashley Cole haven’t done.

The two defenders could be on their way out of the club this year, despite Mourinho wanting to keep them, but it appears that the midfielder will remain for at least another season, and the boss is desperate for the club to reward Lampard for his services by building a statue of him and putting it outside the stadium.

The Portuguese said said: “I don’t know if this is the last for Cole, Lampard and Terry. But I don’t think so.

“I always do my report to the club, a written, official report from the manager to the board.

“In my final report at the end of the season I try to have my point of view, my analysis on every aspect of the season, and every aspect of the club relating to the first-team.

“With Frank and his contribution, there is nothing I can say. However, not now because he’s too young, but maybe in a few years he’ll have a statue where Peter Osgood is, on the side of the stadium. He’s one of the biggest players for this club.”

Chelsea would become the second-club in London to erect statues outside their stadium after Arsenal began the trend by putting Tony Adams, Thierry Henry and Herbert Chapman outside of the Emirates Stadium, and they have recently added Dennis Bergkamp to that group.
