Latest New York City signing Frank Lampard has been quoted as saying he held talks with QPR over a potential move to Loftus Road before agreeing to join new MLS franchise New York City. However the goalscoring midfielder has stated he turned down the chance to work with Harry Redknapp again due to his respect for Chelsea Football Club.

Lampard who is Redknapp’s nephew and played under the now QPR boss at West Ham has said, ‘We had some conversations and so did my dad. I think my dad spoke to Harry quite a lot. But it wasn’t really an option for me. I had 13 years at Chelsea and it’s something very dear to me so it would have been difficult to play for a club so close. So from that point of view coming out here to New York is a good option – it’s a new start.’

Lampard could be on his way for a brief stint in Australia as his New York side don’t start their first campaign until March 2015 the forward could follow David Villa to A-League sister side Melbourne Heart who are also owned by Manchester City’s owners.

Lampard isn’t sure, however, if this is an option form him, ‘We’re going to talk to Claudio Reyna and Jason Kreis and we’ll decide then. I really don’t know – but I will have to keep fit. I’ll have to train at the very top level, whether that’s on my own or with a club somewhere, I’ll have to see.’
