Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes the last four or five months of last season were crucial for midfielder Aaron Ramsey and the Frenchman thinks that is the main reason behind the Welshman’s impressive form.

Ramsey, who scored during the club’s 2-1 victory in Marseille on Wednesday, has already scored six times this season, which is already his most prolific season at the club.

His form has shocked many in the footballing world and his manager has put it down to him playing a lot of games at the end of last year’s campaign.

Wenger said: “It was in the last three or four months of last season when he started to come back.He had a difficult period in mid-season where people became a little bit impatient with him.

“I always thought he would score goals if he improved his technical quality. When you watched the games, you saw him always in good positions in the box.”

The Arsenal boss also believes Ramsey is finally over that horrifying injury he picked up three years ago.

“It took him a long time to get completely over that, especially in the duels, in the fights. He had a little resistance to go into the fights for a long time,” said Wenger.

“I believe that every test that you pass, you come back mentally stronger,” said Wenger. “It’s a good test as well because in our career you go through periods where people like you a bit less or hate you a bit more and if you can deal with that it makes you stronger.

“He has a great engine, great spirit and has an obsession – he wants always to be better.”
