Gabriel Gudmundsson, a defender for Leeds United, has been selected for Sweden’s roster to begin their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign. On Wednesday, head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson announced his 23-man roster. Sweden will play Slovenia on September 5 and Kosovo on September 8.
The 26-year-old Gudmundsson joined Leeds from Lille this summer and has since made an impression in preseason and the first few games of the season, earning a call-up to the national team.
The team would need to demonstrate “character and quality” in order to guarantee a spot in the finals, according to Tomasson, who called the qualifications “a massive challenge.” The Leeds defender, who most recently played in a 2-0 victory over Hungary in June, has made 15 appearances for his nation.
