Roberto Martinez has given Everton’s fans a “100 percent” guarantee that Leighton Baines will still be at Goodison at the end of next month’s transfer window.
Manchester United retain an interest in the England left-back after having two bids for him rejected by the Toffees in the summer.
Baines has still not been offered a new contract that was promised him when the double approach by champions United was rebuffed, but Martinez said: “I can guarantee that Leighton Baines will be here at the end of the season. That is 100 percent.
“Bryan Oviedo has been terrific while Baines has been injured, but we will need them both.”
Baines is in Everton’s squad for Sunday’s visit of Southampton after being sidelined for five weeks with a broken toe.
Martinez has earmarked two signings during January – and a striker will be his priority if he allows Nikica Jelavic to leave.
