Lucas Leiva has confirmed that Rafa Benitez is interested in taking him to Italy and hinted that he could be keen on a move in the future.

The midfielder has only recently signed a new long-term deal at Liverpool but he has been confined to a bit-part role at Anfield and could jump ship to Serie A in the near future.

Ex-boss Benitez has been desperate to bring the Brazilian to Napoli since the summer and he himself was the one who took Leiva to Liverpool when he was in charge at the club.

Lucas seems keen on a reunion as well, telling Brazilian newspaper Lancesport: “Over the summer there was interest from Napoli, along with other clubs. Benitez has again asked to sign me.

“My objective for now is to play consistently. We’ll see in the future.”

Lucas has played in 7 games in all competitions for the Reds so far this season.
